Get to know the Beanies behind Golden Bean The Americas!
Sean Edwards
Sean Edwards has been heavily involved in the cafe and coffee industry for over 25 years having owned numerous cafes and coffee roasting businesses. Sean created events like Cafe Biz and The Golden Bean, designing educational streams within the coffee/cafe sector. His company is global and he consults to industry via offices in Australia, North America and China. Cafe Culture International is the mothership media company behind the events, competitions and industry consulting.
Sean believes Cafe Culture International as a media business has set the foundation for the smart coffee and cafe culture we have today by having the first dedicated national cafe publication which helped spread the growth of a quality cafe food and beverage model. The rest of the world still looks to Australia for innovation and Cafe Culture is still currently involved behind the scenes with the pioneers of change.
Sean treats his passion for the industry like a hobby and every work day for him is full of exciting discovery and a chance to network with the people who make our industry move forward.
Kristine Edwards
Kristine has been married for 39 years to her husband Sean, and has two beautiful and successful children, Charlie & Matilda. Kristine started her working career in administration in mining in Singleton in the Hunter Valley as well as working weekends with Brian McGuigan at Wyndham Estate winery as a wine consultant and events co-ordinator. In 1991 Sean & Kristine moved to Comboyne and started the path to their own hospitality world which has led to owning many cafes and restaurants over the years and presently a Coffee Roastery, 4 cafes, and a cocktail Bar in Port Macquarie. Kristine has excellent coffee knowledge and understands fully the running of a medium size coffee business. She is passionate about people and her business. Her hobbies are yoga and riding her electric mountain bike in the Australian bush. Something people don’t know about Kristine, is that she was born in Bourke, outback Australia and she is definitely not a city girl - but a country girl at heart.
Greg Davis
My journey in coffee began 10 years ago when I joined a Portland, Oregon based cafe and roastery as CFO and Director of Ops. Seven years ago I took the leap and started my own business - Cafe Solutions North America. In 2024 that expanded to include becoming a business partner in Peak Coffee USA (Nashville, TN) and Golden Bean The Americas. I'm always thrilled to try a juicy, fruit-forward Central American coffee (when I'm not drinking a flat white). A fun fact about me is that I have a plaque with my name on it in a bar in Australia (thanks Chuck!)
Scott Angelo
Scott is Co-Owner and head roaster for Oceana Coffee. Scott has won several gold medals in the Golden Bean competition and he has won the Golden Bean Overall Champion.
Scott has been a Head Judge in Golden Bean North America for 5 years and twice in Australia. Scott is very analytic in his judging style and gives a very fair response to his process and directs his judges smoothly. He is a very strong supporter of Golden Bean and has changed the format yearly to make the judging process run smoother from year to year.
Amy Angelo
Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Oceana Coffee, based in Palm Beach County Florida. We got into the coffee industry because we had grown accustomed to the excellent coffee readily available in Australia with local roasters. We were forever ruined by this and upon moving back to Florida, Scotty began roasting coffee just for us at first and then for friends, neighbors, and beyond! Oceana Coffee was born!
We have several retail locations of our own and we have grown our wholesale business substantially since we began in 2009.
My favorite coffee is a cappuccino, so I love a great espresso blend. I also love Ethiopian naturals as a single origin pour over.
Fun fact, we have more pets than kids, a 16 year old son Jordan and 13 year old daughter Grace, lots of furry and feathered family members as well.
Jeremy Moore
Jeremy Moore founded BonLife Coffee Roasters in 2012 with the mission to shorten the distance between great coffee consumed and the people who grow it. After winning the US Aeropress Championship, he went on to place in US Roasters competition twice and win Golden Bean, Cascadia roasting competition, and Good Food Awards. He has been a Q grader since 2017, and when he’s not trying to find the best coffees in the world, he enjoys spending time with family, friends, and the next adventure.
Erika Moore
Erika has been the owner of BonLife Coffee Roasters for over 12 years. Since 2016, BonLife has competed in the Golden Bean awards, winning the overall title three times in North America. Erika's passion for coffee began with a mission to directly source from farms producing exceptional beans while ensuring fair wages for farmers and workers. I like a good cup of black drip, or sometimes I like to spice it up and have an iced latte. Fun fact I am left handed, so I suppose in some ways that can also make me feisty.
Jan Weigel
Former owner of Fresh Cup Magazine. Started Fresh Cup in the basement of my home with Ward Barbee in 1992.
Love summers in Australia!
Love Summers in the Pacific Northwest!
Always enjoy a good cuppa joe for my morning ritual ❤️
Amy Duell
I am the COO and part owner of Oceana Coffee. I have been in the industry since 2012 where I started with Oceana Coffee Founders Amy and Scotty Angelo a few months after they opened their original roastery. What started as a first time high school job quickly became my passion and career. My favorite coffee drip style is Papua New Guinea, but I start every morning out with a cappuccino! In my spare time I love to cook and play sports.
