Are you the best coffee roaster in The Americas?
To become the overall Golden Bean Champion, and take home a custom Reg Barber made Golden Bean Trophy, roasters need to enter a coffee into three categories:
Espresso, Milk-Based & Filter
Winners of all other categories are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, but scores do not contribute to Overall Champion.
To become the Overall Small Chain-Store Champion, you need to enter into:
Small Chain-Store Espresso, Small Chain-Store Milk & Small Chain-Store Filter
To become the Overall Large Chain-Store Champion, you need to enter into:
Large Chain-Store Espresso, Large Chain-Store Milk & LargeChain-Store Filter
Brewing Parameters
Espresso
Machine: Sanremo F18
Tamping: Tamping Puqpress 15kg
Brewhead: Set at 200°F
Basket: 21g
Dose: 20g
Ratio: 1:2
Yield: 20g in basket with a yield of between 40-43g (this is split into 2 servings)
Extraction: 25-28 second extraction split into two servings
Cups: 4oz (takeout cup)
Milk Based
Espresso: Same settings as Espresso
Cup size: 8oz Takeaway Cup
Milk: 40g HP Hoods Whole Milk per Serve/Cup (1:2 ratio)
Pour Over / Filter
Machine: Behmor Filter

Calibration: Altitude calibrated
Water: 900ml (30 fl. oz) of BWT filtered water
Dose: 60g filter ground – Medium
Temperature: 93°C (200°F)
Bloom: 45 seconds
Yield: Will yield 2 x 225ml (17.6 fl. oz) cups of coffee +/- 5%

Machine: Keurig Pod Machine
Type: Single Serve (K-Cup)
Calibration: Lab Grinder set for 425 microns. The fill level for each pod was precisely measured at 12 grams.
Water: Water to coffee ratio was 14 to 1 (170 grams to 12 grams of water)
Dose: 30g filter ground – Medium
Temperature: Six-ounce brew at 200F brew temperature with 1:15 brew time.
Steps to sending in your coffee entry
1. Send one plain bag of coffee per entry: 1 x (500g) sample for judging for each of the categories you are entering.
2. You can enter a maximum of 6 coffee entries per category per roaster. 6 entries will get you a FREE VIP attendance ticket.
3. Write the corresponding category number on your bag.
4. Print ‘packing slip’ for each coffee and STAPLE to each entered bag (this will be removed prior to the event).
5. DO NOT write your business name on the coffee bags.
